Hi all
Today in Asda I bought some reduced steaks but upon getting home I discovered they had a very slight greenish tinge to them!!
They smell ok though do you think they would be ok to eat and anybody know what this greenish tinge is?
TIA.

It might be that the steak has some marbling (fat) in it, it sometimes gives it a bit of an oily, shiny texture which looks green in some lights. And it makes it tastier, and means you can use less oil if you fry it!0

In my experience you have to be careful with Asda meat. I have had mince that is within sell by that has been very off - so much so that when I took it to customer services the people standing next to me have pulled a face and gone yuck just on looking at it not even smelling it.
I have heard some stories, admittedly not only about Asda.0 -
I would worry a bit, if it was slightly green, darker meat is fine, but green??? Def would give it a sniff to see if it smells off, but i think i would be very wary about eating it.0

Maybe they're dragon steaks?

If you are not happy return them to Asda and get your money back. They still have to be fit for you to eat even though they are reduced.'You can't change the past, you can only change the future' Gary Boulet.

I too have had mince that has gone off from ASDA and I used to hardly shop there I bought the mince as a one off...and it was off!0 -
A friend used to shop there all the time, she lived nearby, but would never ever buy their meat. I know that the same had happened to her.0

Some meat has what I can only call is an iridescent sheen on it. Think of the colour green (But not as dark of course)and sheen of a peac0cks tail feathers.
I have no idea if it is good or bad for you at this stage. But I see it often on beef and bacon.
It does put me off but that is a personal reason not for any health reason.
To me if you are unsure than bin it. As to me it is better to be safe than sorry.
Sorry I can't be any more help that that.

Hello,
I've seen this greenish tinge on bacon and beef, I often wandered about it too, I think I read somewhere that it's a syptom that arises whe the animals have been fed with a certain type of pellet food, made from fish and it's something from the fish (scales I presume) that causes the sheen!
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what was said! HTH
