Not too sure on SATA. Check the jumpers and make sure that it's set to SLAVE.

Make sure the IDE is set to MASTER.

The SATA doesn't have any jumper,s but will lok at the jumpers on the IDE.

I must admit, I didn't think XP looked at jumper settings...

I just took a look at the manual; you can remove items from the Boot Device list - under Advanced BIOS Features - but it's not immediately obvious what needs to be done. You cannot have the same device occupy multiple entries in the list simultaneously, so you may need to temporarily set one or both of the entries you do not wish to change to [Disabled]. That probably won't solve your problem, but it's nice to know this sort of thing when you want to reinstall or replace an operating system.

I'm convinced your problem has something to do with the default settings of your SATA controller(s). Set SATA Port0-1 Native Mode to [Enabled], save your settings and reboot.

Ok, will tyr that setting in a few minutes and report back.

As an aside, my OH is bringing me a USB SATA HDD caddy home Maplins when she comes home from work, fingers crossed that will work!!

Right, changing that setting made no difference.

The PC boots, gets to the Windows screen with the wizzy bar, that stays on for a few seconds, as normal, but then Windows doesn't boot, it just stays on a plain black screen.

Also, I checked the iDE drive's jumpers and can confirm that yes, it is, and was set as master.
