Bats coming down the chimney!

I haven't a clue what to do about this. For the last week we have had a bat flying down the chimney and out of the fireplace (obviously not when the fire was on!).
I've done a bit of reading on them and understand they are pretty harmless and also protected. The bat flies out of the door when we open it, but it's obviously not a great situation.
Has anybody any experience of anything similar?

if you phone them they will send someone out to advise you and will be able to tell you where they are getting in and approx how many there are, my daughter has them. it is likely a roost has been closed up somewhere else, they hibernate in the woods etc in winter as houses are too warm for them but come back in spring to have their babies. it is right they are protected so dont do anything yourself as there is a hefty fine. found the man very kind and helpfulAlleycat wrote:Not had any experience of this myself, but have a look at this link there may be some advice to help?

You could also try phoning your council - probably try the pest control dept first - they should have someone to advise you. Help should be free as bats are protected so you are not allowed to do anything about it yourself, please don't try as bats are lovely little things!0
