I have today received this email message, I am assuming it is junk, but what should I now do? I do not know either the sender or the receiver which is not me!:exclamati

Due to the congestion in all Hotmail users and removal of all unused Hotmail Accounts, Hotmail would be shutting down all unused Accounts, You will have to confirm your E-mail by filling out your Login Information below after clicking the reply button, or your account will be suspended after two weeks for security reasons.

It is just a very poor phishing attempt, just ignore it.

And edit the post to remove your email address or you will find spam on the increase.

If you ever receive an email asking for your password, it's phishing spam.

If it originated from a Hotmail account, you can report it.

As above have said, that's a scam. Unless it's addressed in the "Dear ..." part to my name or my account I ignore them straight away, and even if they are addressed to me, I still treat it as a scam! and investigate further.

I'd edit out your email address from your post, you may end up with spam.

Thank you for the reassurances, I will edit the email address, but as it's not my email address, how did I get the message?

The email address can be 'spoofed', it helps the spammers to avoid detection by filtering software, I occasionally get emails from 'myself' offering me uni degrees etc.

Personally id edit the message to remove the email address (Assuming that is the proper email address)
