Parcel2Ship offers a DHL service cheaper than DHL?!

Hi all,
I'm looking for a cheap and reliable parcel
service to Germany.

I've found an offer from Parcel2Ship
http://www.parcel2ship.co.uk/acatalog/Send-Parcel-To-Germany-DHL-Pickup-30KG.html
It's £22.95 for a parcel of up to 30kg to Germany with DHL.
That sounds really good!

However, I also checked on the DHL page directly
https://www.dhlitnow.com/tws/tariff.aspx
There, a parcel of up to 31.5kg to Germany would
cost £136.95.

Now, how is it possible that Parcel2Ship can
offer a DHL service for £22.95 whereas DHL charges
£136.95?

Is there something wrong with Parcel2ship?

Thanks,
LemonTree

  • Parcel2Ship will have an account with DHL and will probably be eligible for discounted rates, which they can then pass on to you. Think that's how it works anyway. x
  • Yep, it's all fine. Parcel2Ship obviously buy the service in much larger quantaties than the average consumer, so get a huge discount from DHL. It's a bit like Ocado - They buy the stuff from Waitrose and sell it on... Recently they have been known to sell Waitrose branded goods for less than Waitrose sells them!

Ocado is part owned by John Lewis who own Waitrose.

There are a lot of parcel courier 'resellers' some who are official, in that the courier company knows they are reselling their services to a third party and some who aren't (technically they are reselling services that should be for their own use and are in breach of their contract).
There's a thread on here about courier resellers, if you're lucky someone will bump it shortly.

Hmmm.... Didn't know that. I just read about them selling Waitrose branded goods on cheaper than Waitrose themselves, so assumed they were separate from JLP, but had permission to sell the goods or something? Getting confused now lol

  • Great! Thanks for your replies!

A bit off-topic - what would go for? "DHL" or "Parcelforce"?
They both offer the same service of shipping a parcel of up to 30KG
    for £22.95 to Germany.

    See here
    http://www.parcel2ship.co.uk/acatalog/Send-Parcel-To-Germany-DHL-Pickup-30KG.html
    and here

However, the insurance with DHL is just £50 and the one with
    Parcelforce is £150.
Surely, DHL is the bigger company with higher reputation. But Parcelforce
    offers a higher insurance.
    What is your experience?
Which company would you go for?

    Thanks a lot!

Not got the facts, but I'd have thought it was the other way round. I think Parcelforce handle more parcels in the UK than any other courier company (I stand to be corrected!).

These quotes are for different weights. Most carriers have an upper weight limit around 30kg above which items are considered freight and will be far more expensive.
