This is a staggering exclusion! What happens if you use an airline like Easyjet, where all tickets are effectively one-ways? Or if you have a return ticket that allows date changes?0 -
I agree, it's an onnerous exclusion, it actually means that if the flight is a one way ticket or an open ticket then EVERY single section of the policy is excluded.
http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/PFS/A/Content/Files/9908557_Jul09.pdf Its on page 6 under the definition of "Journey" I've not seen such an onnerous exclusion on a travel before about the plane tickets before. Most companies have a definition of a "Trip" or "Journey" that is covered along the lines of it must start and finish in the uk and be within the dates allowed on the trip.0 -

mmm I wonder if it really means that though? I'd read it as meaning you must have your homeward flight booked before you leave, and not rely on buying a one way ticket home whilst on holiday or making a reservation on your open ticket. That is, you can't use it for an open ended trip.
I really doubt if it's meant to be interpreted as you've read it - not even an insurance company would sink that low:rolleyes:0 -
If that was the case they could simply include something along the lines of you are covered provided you have two singles. It does not so could possibly used to decline claims where one way tickets have been bought.
This came up as a Barclays customer who reguarly goes to Spain for longish holidays and buys a single flight and then buys another single while in Spain as its sometimes cheaper or just simply she wants to decide when to come back whilst abroad. She contacted Barclays and they advised her she was not covered due to this exclusion.
As I stated virtually every other Insurer does not have a similar exclusion and relies on the standard definition of a trip being covered provided it begins and ends in the UK within the dates covered by the policy.
I work in Insurance and Insurers change the definitions on purpose, the put a great deal of thought into the wordings of the policy especially exclusions as they have to stand legal scrutiny. They have intentionally deviated from the standard definition0
