Booked our holiday at the start of the year. Saved up and have now found out there will be building works at the hotel. What would people suggest? Phone up to try get extras? Make a bit of a fuss or just accept it?
Thanks
Thanks

It really depends on what work is being done, and at what stage the works will be at.
My parents stayed at a hotel where there was work in external areas last year, and though they saw it (a small area near the beach was blocked off), it did not disturb them in any way.
One of the hotels I stayed in last week had internal work going on ... and I didn't see or hear a thing!Gone ... or have I?0 -
How have you found out, by yourself or has the travel agent let you know. If TA has let you know have you asked them what options you have. The work maybe nothing and the're just letting you know out of courtesy or could be serious and you need to know what choices you have.0

It depends on the work being done. We went to Mexico about 6 months after a hurricane had hit the area and severly damaged our hotel. We were told there was building work going on, but it never really bothered us.
Around the block we were staying in, they were planting up flower beds so that caused us no bother at all. They were painting the external walls of buildings between us and the beach, but you could only smell the paint when you walked past. They were still working on the accomodation by one of the pools, so there were people going past with bedroom furnishings and they were doing finishing off jobs like putting up curtain poles and stuff so you would get a bit of drilling and hammering noise. However there were three other pools to sit beside so you could avoid it if you wanted to.Here I go again on my own....0 -
Thanks for your replies! They are saying it isn't much and that it wont make a difference to the holiday (the travel agent wrote to us about it) but we may be able to hear it. It would just really upset me if we got out there and it was worse than they were suggesting! It was suggested we could change hotels there if it were an issue, but that is a bit of disruption to be honest.... and isn't that what we want holidays to get away from )I've finally taken control of my life!
