It used to be the case that if you were automatically accepted for a bank account with a Multi Function Card, you would be guaranteed to get a credit card even though the limit would normally be very low starting at £250 however this is now not the case, an the advisor cannot guarantee you a credit card anymore.0

With Abbey if you maintain a decent balance say av. £500+ in the account I found that a CC was offered to you in about 5 months. What checks and status things you need to meet for that as well I don't know- but that is what happened to me. Also had the biggest credit limit of any card I had, more than double my more than sufficient Citi one!:eek:0 -

Is that for real? My new Abbey account has £2,500 in it (using it for the 6% interest), and popping £1,000 out and back in for the funding aspect.
Will they offer me a CC after 5 months, or do you need to actively use the account to qualify??I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
As a student i was living in my overdraft, then on placement earning approx 1100 net a month, while still not really getting out of the overdraft i was also offered a cc. Letter came through guaranteeing a cc and was given £3200 balance. Think that as long as you manage your account reasonably well then they will offer you one.0

I am with a proper bank (LTSB). I'm merely using them for the 6% rate on £2,500 I've got kicking about. :jI spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Abbey seem to have a good product range but poor customer services. Abbey always bottom out on consumer polls. This recent Scotsman article detailing a Which? Money survey is a good example.Muststopworrying wrote: »Are Allience and Leicster any better?
Don't know about the present but in future if Santander (who also own Abbey) have anything to do with it, I would imagine no.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -

I opened my Abbey 6% Current Account in early August. The website showes the promise, as did the advisor - in fact, she believed that was always the case, as whenever a credit card application is declined (for those who open a current account), she has always rang a central number and get the application accepted. However, when it was my turn, the central number people said that service is discontinued.
I wrote a complaint letter to Abbey Complaints - must say their Complaints Team people are rather polite and courteous, can see they are actioning on it (i.e. left voice messages to me letting me know they have not forgotten my case and are processing it). Will update you all on my complaint status when I hear back from them (the person said hopefully this week).0 -
I have been with Abbey over 3 years. My account always has the balance of £2500 or above. I got rejected for the Zero credit card for 3 times for this year! I will try the fourth time when coming back from my holiday in Sep!!! And I have never got rejected by any other bank.
ps. I only used their online application, I will try to use the phone application to see if any help to talk to the human being.0
