Hi All
Has anyone ever made the hole required for a bathroom extractor fan in a soffit? Any tips or guidance on how to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Is this a round hole or a rectangular hole. The instructions will probably say what size is required, or, if not, a direct measurement of the grill.
You mark out the appropriate shape in the soffit. In the absence any special tools a keyhole saw should do the job. If it's a circle then drill a hole on the circumference and then saw around to the line. If it is a rectangle or square, then drill a hole in each corner and then saw straight between the holes. You will probably need to tidy the hole up a bit with a file. There will be a requirement for a couple of fixing screws. But only a look at the grill will tell you where they are needed. If the hole is circular then a hole cutter would also do the job, if you have one the right size.. Probably best to wear goggles if you are working above your head. You don't want any of the cut material to get in your eyes.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I have done it using a hole saw, but it is bloomin hard work connecting the ducting on the inside. I drilled the hole from a ladder, which should be avoided at all costs. I don't suppose you can reach through the window like this-

Be warned that these can be nosey when on, as the vibrations are send through the plaster board. Get an in line fan and you can attach this to joist.Kind Regards
