Trouble downloading anti malware and anti virus

Hi guys i'm trying to sort out my bro in laws laptop he had no security on there or anythinga and ended up losing the driver for the dvd driver!!

Anyway i did a system restore and got the driver back however i'm trying to download malawarebytes anti malware and also spybot but even though its saying downloaded there's no desk top icon and not listed in the intalled programmes. Is this something to do with the sytem restore????

  • The first thing I would check is whether the software has downloaded to another location. I beleive (and stand to be corrected) the default location is My Documents and not the Desktop. Try using the search facilty to look for the filename you have downloaded.

    i have tried searching and again nothing come up.

    i understand that i have to install them, its telling me that i've installed them but cant find them on the laptop

    if you have installed them look in the folders, start is the icon bottom left on the taskbar.
    start / all programs / malwarebytes antispyware /
    start / all programs/ spybot search & destroy /

    alternatively look in c:\program files\malwarebytes or spybot folders,
    if neither of these work, then you havent installed them.
    it is always recommended that when you download the files you use the SAVE TO and not the RUN option if using Internet explorer.
  • In that case you may not have selected the options to add the desktop or start menu options.

    Go to My Computer>C:>Program Files and see if you can see a folder for either of the programs.
