Newbie

Hi all,

I'm a newbie and am about to go BR. I've been reading a number of posts and its starting to give me courage. My debts started spiralling after the birth of my child and subsequent post-natal depression last year. I had to quit my job and our income declined massively. I've just gone back to the doc's as I'm having a bit of a breakdown because of the debts and I'm really scared about becoming BR. The doc's have been great, shame about the credit company's tho. I've offered them token payments which were declined, I've had to change my mobile number to stop the bombardment of calls, I tried to claim against my PPI (waste of time) as depression is not a valid illness unless I'm under a psychiatrist. I'm trying to claim back the payments which would wipe out some of the debt but they're not playing ball.
So I'm having to go BR and I'm pretty scared! Reading some of the posts has been encouraging and is helping me be a bit stronger.

  • hi and welcome to the club. You need to be free of this burden and going BR will do just that. The creditors will carry on their quest for payment, unless you pay them of course. Whatever you do don't tell them about going or even thinking about going BR..

How much are you in the mud for?
It may have a bearing on which direction to take.

Take your time any Q and A just ;)ask

  • Hi and thanks for the welcome.
I'm in up to my neck to the tune of £32k. Its scary sitting down and seeing it all in black and white.:o
I have to admit I do put my head in the sand, especially with this illness.

Newdiamond, I felt quite afraid of my debts, and 'what was the worse that could happne', and now I've taken the decision to go BR, in my eyes I can only go up from here. People I've told have been very supportive and I have had a lot of help from these forums and from the Insolvency debt support people (charity). My advice would be ttake things one day at a time, and when a day is too long, take it an hour at a time. I had pn depression, and a nervous breakdown. Neither was fun, but I'm still here. Here you are amongst friends, good luck

You are definitely not alone anymore. It is hard to take the first steps but by coming on here you have. I was the same many moons ago but once you have jumped the first hurdle, the next hurdle gets easier and before you know it you can jump over any hurdle no matter how big. Keep posting, any questions will be answered some quicker than others;)

Newdiamond, how you doing? At what stage of the BR are you? have you sought good advice from a debt charity?

Hi ND, welcome. Get advice from debt charities and gather as much information as you can before taking any steps. It is a very frightening process and for many of us a last resort. Feel free to pop in here and get support whenever you need. This forum has been invaluable to me and many others.
