Comet "Price match"

I guess this is just another hard luck story...bring out the violins...it's all been heard before...bla-bla....Well thats the point!
So here's the story in Brief:
Supplier: "Comet Electrical"
Goods: Samsung 22" LCD TV
After long deliberations a choice was made to buy a LCD TV from many different models on show. Before buying a question was posed to the salesman. Are you going to reduce the price of this TV in the near future? I don't want to find that after I have bought it the price reduces next week...
Salesman's reply....."Don't worry...'Comet' will refund you the difference, should you find the same TV anywhere else, as long as it's a physical store and within 2 weeks of your purchase date". Confident with the reply, I proceeded with the purchase...
Needless to say while shopping with my wife the very next day at 'John Lewis', the same TV could be had £30.00 cheaper.
Confident I should receive a credit for the difference paid and at least feel that I still have a good deal, I phoned to advise 'Comet' of my discovery and within a matter of seconds my expectations where shatterred by a customer service representative who seemed to enjoy fobbing me off by quoting the policy wording which had been omitted at the time of sale!
According to the policy, The Price match is only honoured if the product can be found within a 10 mile radius of the store.
OK, so because I never read the policy documentation at the time of purchase (never seen anyone else that does) and rather went by the salesman's word, I am now in the position I didn't want to be in, which is a feeling of being cheated and now regretting that I ever purchased this TV from 'Comet'.

do they do a return for full refund within 28 days?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0

How far away is John Lewis? And how much would it cost you to make the trip out?
Sales staff can't be expected to inform you of every bit of small print, you'd never leave. That's why it's written for you to read.
But, on the positive side, you may be able to go into the store and see if they'll match it anyway.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
John Lewis also offer a free 5 year warranty0

why do you feel cheated?
if its over 10 miles away then you have petrol/travelling costs to key in
same goes if you have problems later and have to return it.
i paid more for my TV so i got a local store over online for this very reason.0 -
We ironically had the problem almost the other way around, John Lewis wouldn't stand by their price matching promise. Except in our case we were completely going by their own rules that they refused to uphold and made up new unwritten ones as they went along. In our case only thing that helped and resolved it was a letter to the Chairman's office cc'd to the people/department refusing to uphold the price match."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
