Hi all,
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 830. Just bought a compatible ink cartridge and the printer won't recognise it. As I've never used a compatible before, what do I have to do to get it work?
Thanks!

If you are sure that you've inserted it correctly and it still doesn't work, then it's a return to whoever sold it to you for a replacement, I'm afraid...

Check what lights are flashing too, may be a case of the excellent Epson "service required" situation. I'd try a new cartridge in first though.0

I have an Epson printer and if I buy a compatible cartridge or refill one I have to reset the chip that is in the cartridge.
See here http://www.whitedog.co.uk/catalog/zapit-inkjet-chip-resetter/p-509.html
I bought mine in the local Wilkinson's store for a little less than what the are asking for it here.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
ariba10: you have to reset the chip on the compatible cartridge?0

I thought you only had to reset a chip if you were refilling a cartridge ... am I wrong?
Cheers
ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Have you still got the old original "empty one" fire that back in just to make sure the printer is still functioning ok.
I use compatible carts and some brands do not get seen by the printer at first but all of a sudden it sees them after inserting and taking out and placing back in.
"slightly worrrying when you buy 18 carts off the net"
I generally stick to one brand once your printer is happy with them.
Ps
I would never buy original carts again way to dear if you only use printer for everyday use.0 -
I had problems with mine, found that the cartridge wasn't seated properly, ended up with a piece of folded-up card pushing the cartridge in more firmly!! Fine now.0

I have the same problem with my c64, I think they may have done something with the driver as it only started playing uo after a software update. Yes, I have deleted the software and reinstalled to no effect. The only way I can get compatibles to work is to use a genuine black one and compatible colours. My greatest problem is that I don't use the inkjet much now I've got my laser.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Fixed it now! The color cartridge had run out as well (*doh*) so I replaced the color cart. Took out the compatible cartridge, put the empty one back in. 'Printed' a page. Then swapped cartridges and it's ok. Seems mighty complicated for something that I thought would be as simple as popping the old cartridge out and inserting the new one.0
