Hi folks,
I am about to install NIS 2006(full version not upgrade edition!!!) over my old 2005 version. I am just wondering is there any thing I should do first like uninstalling the 2005 edition first or just jump in and get going by putting in my 2006 disk???
Any tips appreciated
Jules

I'd uninstall the old version first, just to start with a clean slate. You can use the Norton Uninstall Tool to do so. Note, however that it uninstalls all Norton products, so if you've also got other Norton applications such as Ghost, you'll have to reinstall them afterwards. Run the tool from Internet Explorer (not Firefox etc.) because runs as an ActiveX control.0

Someone posted about a week ago that they were going to do an upgrade-in-place to NIS 2006, and would post back once they'd done it. I've seen nothing yet.
Of course, both the out-with-the-old/in-with-the-new and the upgrade-in-place methods ought to work! If you have any settings you want to keep, it would be worth writing them down before attempting either method!
I can tell you one thing for free from my afternoon's amusements -- don't try to delete all the empty directories on your machine for tidiness' sake, because NIS 2005 goes into "unhappiness mode", and you have to put them all back again from your backup...
Good luck with your upgrade!

IMO you uninstall the old version first - otherwise it will continue bugging you to renew the subscription to Liveupdate...!0

Good luck witht he uninstall process, Norton is notorious for failed uninstalls that they have created uninstall programs that are available on their website.0

John, it was me, I was going to do it this weekend but got bogged down in other things. DS off to school Tuesd and hubby at work so plan to do it then. I will post back when done.
I did email symantec on their LiveChat and they recommend uninstalling 2005 via the normal uninstal process (add/remove programs) and then installing 2006. So that is what I will try.
Fingers crossed. Lol.0 -
Have just done the changeover. Uninstalled NIS 2005 (did not uninstall the Liveupdate tab, just removal of NIS 2005). Then closed down. Installed disc for NIS2006 and about 1 hour later all installed, updated and scanned. Tip top. Hopefully that is it.0

Excellent! I am pleased you didn't encounter any problems!
I spent 70 minutes on the phone this morning to Symantec Technical Support, diagnosing a particularly unusual problem with Symantec AV Corporate Edition v9. We got there in the end, and I was very impressed by how hard the chap tried!

HI folks
Sorry about the delay..... I took me a while to get around to doing this install. Having video card problems!!!!
Anyhow thanks to Chippy and others for your advice and info. I used the remove tool to uninstall NIS 2005 then I rebooted and installed NIS 2006. All went smoothly and well.
Thanks
