I spoke to the morgage chap in Barclays about doing this when I went in the other day for an initial consultation. He said that it was fine, easily done online or over the phone. All you needed was the mortgage account number and sort code.

I have a woolwich mortgage too and I'm allowed to pay off 10% every year. I've never paid this over the phone though, because I was told I couldn't:confused:I go into my branch and pay it there:D

Your name, as the sort code and account number is specific to you.

Thanks everybody. Going to try and set that up today. The easier it is to overpay, the more likely I am to do it!!

Just found this old thread as we have spent all afternoon trying to find out how to look at our Woolwich mortgage account on-line with no success.

I'm in no rush as I want to start overpaying in August but want to work out how to a) See my mortgage account on-line
    b) Work out how to overpay on-line either from my Nationwide Flex account or the Barclays current account that was set up for us on taking out the mortgage.

Up until last year we had our mortgage with Nationwide and overpaying was easy peasy.

Just awaiting a passcode through the post for online woolwich so we will see if that works. :undecided

I have Woolwich/barclays mortgage which I pay by standing order. I vary the ammount month by month, (as long as over set direct debit payment specified). This takes the place of the direct debit, not in addition to it. At the end of the year you get your statement. Maybe set your own spreadsheet up to log payments/balance. You can also ring up telephone banking 2/3 days after each payment and get balance easily.

Just use your sort code, mortgage acc number

    cheers:)

I overpay on my mortgage every month. I set up the details via on-line banking using the method as "Trying to be good" suggests and it works well. I did a small amount on-line then went into my local branch and checked that the payment had gone into my account

I had to speak with the mortgage advisor who set up my Woolwich account for the correct details and fortunately he is in my local branch 3 times a week.

As for checking on-line, I use Experian which is usually very accurate showing amounts outstanding. The only down side is that I pay £6.99 monthly. That's £83.88 a year for the pleasure, I am going to review this cos it's the only reason I have the account and that amount going towards OP's set over the period of time I have outstanding on my Mortgage is a sum of money for sure!

Come on Woolwich/Barclay's other organisations do this, what's holding you back?

I got a questionairre on line after signing up for on-line banking which was no use to me as I still couldnt see mortgage balance or a way to easily over pay by random amounts.

I made it very clear I wasnt impressed with the service and compared it very unfavourably to my previous nationwide mortgage account.

Unsurprisingly I have heard nothing back.

    Hi,

Does anyone know what the 10% allowed overpayment is based on. Is the the total value of the original loan?

    Thanks
    Luke
