My wife has just left her job for a change in carreer, with a whopping cut in salary.
My income is £28k per year and hers has dropped to £3k per year.
We have saving of appox £15k.
Currently we do not recieve any benefits or bill reductions etc..
Any ideas what \ if any benifits \ reductions we \ she could be entitled to?

your best bet would be to ring your local job centre, but to be honest i dont think you would get much help as you have savings plus a very good income.
a friend of mine is on income support and there income of just under 9k a year and it is good enough to live on as this is what the goverment give.
you could get working tax credits and help with childcare costs but to be honest i think your savings will affect anything as i belive they have to be less than 2k.0 -
Umm in one word nothing.
I do understand that you have commitments but you do have an income of £31K a year.
Before the career change the financial impact should have looked at. And savings made where possible.
All the best.

Due you have children? There is Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits available if you did.
If you dont, then I very very much doubt it. For means tested benefits such as HOusing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, etc you are allowed to have savings up to £16k. However after £6k they judge you as having a 'tariff' income from those savings, they take that as £1 for every £250 you have in savings and add that on top of your income. Anything above £16k and you are entitled to nothing.
TBH you are on a salary that many people would be very happy with, and the benefit system is not designed to help people on such a high income.0 -
Thanks for the input everyone.
I know we are extremely priveledged. But I'm always looking to get what I can.
btw - we have no children.0 -

On such an high income you would not get Working tax credits. You might get some help with childcare costs on that wage but nothing else.

A view that is shared by many - which is why the benefits system is so popular and so abused :rolleyes:0 -

I in the view of most of the posters here but I wouldn't go as far as viktory as I guess you are trying to sort this out for security reasons though some people do take the pee.
You could try Entitled To which is a benefits calculator which works out your entitlement to benefits and tax credits.
Good luck!0 -
What do you think the op is entitled to on a joint income of £32K when they have no children?Lugh_Chronain wrote: »
