Round the world flights

Hi All,
In December I am emergrating to NZ and in the hope of getting a good cheap deal, I am currently looking to buy my ticket.
As the 24 hour journey is a nightmare, my fiancee and I have descided to stop off in India and Bangkok on route. I looked on the Opodo site for our SINGLE ticket ( as we don't wish to be restricted to returning to the UK in a year) and was quoted £1099.pp. This was with 2 additional stopovers and if we opted for a direct flight we would each be adding another £1,000 to our tickets.
What the most suprising point of my story is that we can get a return AROUND THE WORLD ticket for £600. This seems wrong!
So I am wanting to take Martins advice of buying this cheap return ticket yet I resent not using it up! Then I thought, as some tour operators offer a certain number of miles, we could still go to India and Bangkok and use up the remaining miles in NZ. All I need now is a good tour operator who I could do this with.
Any suggestions please...

I think dial-a-flight do round the world flights - not sure how good they are for this but always been ok for normal long-haul.
Trailfinders are a big established operation (when I last did this sort of booking though they were always a bit dearer than some of the other operators).0 -
I would see what Trailfinders could offer you. I have just booked 2 trips with them (one is RTW) and they were much cheaper than anyone else STA, studentflights etc.
If you look at just single tickets on the web, it will always be high prices, and never half the return price if that makes sense.****************************0 -
Agree; Trailfinders very good.

£890 - London Singapore Phuket surface to Bangkok Sydney Queenstown Auckland Raratonga Fiji Los Angeles surface to New York London0 -
I went to the Trial finders website which promoted Star Alliance who DO offer a miles service enabling us to use up most of our miles in the northern hemisphere: not only that but the price doesn't change in accordance to season. So I will definatley be booking with them - Thanks folks.0

What a nightmare, after spending hours working out all the connections of my perfect round the world trip ( a total of 9 flights on a Star Alliance Escaped ticket with Trailfinders), I was told I would have to pay for the two tickets in full within a week, which is over £2300. This seems a bit harsh considering we are not going until December. I am not sure if this policy is that of Trailfinders or Star Alliance, but I was advised by the Cambridge agent that this ticket IS the cheapest. Of course we could wait until nearer our departure date to book but then we risk our connecting flights being booked. Any Ideas.....0

Can you tell me where the £600 flight is please? Don't forget you have to add taxes on for every stopover! Virgin /Air Newzealand /Singapore airlines have a good deal but not £600.0

I know it was not directed at me but i have had 795 all in so that could be 600 plus tax. That was in Nov 2004 through travelmood, currently on a Star Alliance Escaped ticket booked through virgin as they seemed really good.0 -
Thanks Cundall, I think Virgin/ANZ price is around £1000 now depending which stopovers on escapade ticket!
Off to Cornwall now for a week so will miss MSE.0 -
Yeh our family has bought two different RTW tickets and they are both 1,100 ish IE mine was 1,111 while my sisters was about 1,099 - Like you said depending on stops.
I have seen London - Hong Kong - Auckland - Los Angeles - London for £745
