can i just put the record straight as people ave the wrong end of the stick which i think as usual is down to me!
firsty back in may 2004 i started my own business i used what little money i had to buy a van the work Transporting greyounds all over the country.[im still a licensedd transporta, so please stop going on about caring and welfare of the dogs i know the rules inside out]
nov 06 my van got writtern off by a pratt speeding in a b.m.w apart from a badly brusied face and head i also badly injured my knee, it went to court in Januray this year i won, since then there has been alot of red tape and a scan of my injury on my knee, i have not been as i have never had dole money or benfits i found it rather hard to one find work and 2 start a new business without funding[have very little to do with banks they like ripping people off] so i went back to college, doing a degree course i quilify for a grant wont cant get it till i start college in sept, vets cant be expected to work for nothing, unless you are a regurlar customer you dont get the luxuary of an account, insurance is usually a waste of money unless something happenes which requires a large amount of money to put it right, and usually as soon as you say im insured the price gose up[funny that]
IN MY CASE THIS WOULD HAVE HELPED. [having incurance cover] as a transporta, i have issues with the so called sport, and the some of the people within it from the top to the bottom, however i know when its time to say goodbuy to pet, [some people tend to hang on to there pets at any costs [the vets love them] i didnt cope very well with thought of losing her,
she dose have a mouth infection
she also has problums in her back
she has a badley torn triseps muscel in her left should lateral head
also injury to triseps brachii, long head
has a corn on her rt foot
she also has injured the following, her rt wrist
also a hind muscel in fact semitendinous
so please stop surgesting i dont care or have the knowledge to care about my dog,
when your up against a brick wall what do you do by using the pdsa i was going to pay the small amount i had, or would someone surgest, i put my dog under yet more stress, of taking to a vet to be refused?[might not have happened they do have a duty to treat anaimals however they may have refurred me to the PDSA.] so who cares, there was a dog at the center of all this some people find it hard to belive but i was trying to care for her, or perhaps i should just have dis-owned her like some people do???
i am speaking from my exprience of the pdsa, it was not good i wont be giving them anything again,
however FC im aware the costs could mount up and no i dont have any more funds, the metcam is great but it runs out in a couple of days i will see if she gose backwards, in which case i have a decision to make.[ i could get hold of a chiro-practor just to see what he says,[again might say need xray]

I don't see why you had to explain yourself OP. Some people don't understand the meaning of broke as they are shored up by the taxpayers.

I don't know how they'd cope if they were self employed and their business went bust or even slowed down, there's no immediate help then.

Your rant though at the PDSA is over the top. They were good enough to say they would treat your dog, and it sounds as though a lot of treatment is needed. They made that offer although you don't actually qualify as the legal owner, your mother does as you live with her. A slight bending of their rules it seems and in your favour.

So then, doesn't it seem reasonable to you that they wish to see your mother in person, complete with paper proof that she really is disabled? Or do you really suppose that no one in the PDSA's long history has tried to dupe them?

I think that you should reconsider their offer. If you lost your temper with them, you need to apologise. Your dog will need ongoing treatment and unless you back down and accept their kind help, your dog will either suffer or be put to sleep. All because you were pig headed.

Think about it and good luck with your course in September.
ETA ............ Your Vet sounds pricey at £80 for PTS. I was charged £35 but perhaps it depends on size of dog.

I can see both sides of this argument. I had a dog with no pet insurance (something i would never do now) but i got him in the early 90's when it wasnt so well known of.

To cut a long story short, he developed several severe health problems, he tore the ligament in his knee, and got stomach cancer.

At the time i had no money coming in as i had lost my job (apart from job seekers allowance) and the nearest pdsa was 25 miles away.

I set up a account with the vets, which i paid off monthly and also put my credit card to the limit to pay for his treatment (not sensible i know but i had no other option.) I also sold everything i could on ebay for extra cash. At one point when his tummy got bad he would be eating fresh chicken and rice everyday while i had beans on toast!

I didnt hang on to my pet at any cost as you phrased it, but all the time myself and the vets agreed he had a good quality of life, i was prepared to do all i could to keep him. The bills ran into thousands, but i dont regret it for a second. When the time came to have him put to sleep, the last thing on my mind was the additional cost, this didnt even come into it.

I personally think the reason some posters have been hard on you, is the way you have phrased certain comments. Such as the one about you knowing when to say goodbye. No one can judge when this is apart from the owner or the vet, and you shouldnt be judging people for doing all they can to hang onto the pet-providing it is not suffering.

what a smartie22 I am sorry to hear about your run of bad luck (which was pretty much what I suspected) and can understand how stressed, upset and desparate you are. I think Mutter hit the nail on the head..

I think there are some folks on here who owe you an apology (but don't hold your breath) :rotfl:

You mentioned taking your dog to a chiropractor - why not see if there is a McTimoney chiropractor in your area. I have used these people with great success in the past - they treat people as well as dogs, horses, etc. In fact, my sisters dog was sorted after a few sessions despite the vet saying he would need an operation costing around £2,000 . The man I see only charges £10 per session (I think it was £20 for the initial consultation) and I have never had to take a dog to him more than 3-4 times. Might be worth looking into :D

    Good luck.....
