Re-applying to a re-advertised job

Basically I applied to a job with a rather large charity and got an e-mail at the end of last week saying 'thanks but no thanks'. I have just seen the same job re-advertised on the Guardian website and am considering re-applying - nothing ventured nothing gained and all that - but at the same time there's a little voice in the back of my head saying 'they said no once, what if they say no again?' and then another little voice saying 'maybe this time you might have a better chance though if they're re-advertising'... oh I don't know.
So yeah, should I give it another go or let it slide?

Not sure but I've often wondered the same and decided against but will be interested to hear the thoughts of others.0

Give it another go. Have a look at your CV, maybe change a few words around. You know the sort of questions they are likely to ask so alter things so that they work in your favour.
I had an interview in June 2008, didnt get the job but was called back in the September, offered the job and the boss loves me now cos I'm a grafter and I think she realises she should have give me the job back in the june0 -
What makes you think it's "re-advertised"? You sound as though you think it's been filled & didn't work out so they're re-recruiting for it. Quite often jobs are advertised on countless websites, they harvest them. You may well find that if you apply through the guardian website, your application will just end up going to and through the same agency as your first application.
My thoughts are that it's the same original advert (even though they put "updated today" on it. I'm still seeing a job advertised in various places that I applied to at least 3 weeks ago and know for a fact has been filled.0 -

One: They've changed the advert. They're now asking for a covering letter and a CV, whereas last time it was an online application form.
Two: I saw the same job for the first time on the Guardian website advertised with a closing date of 31st July some weeks ago, and it hasn't been on there for a week. I just don't think they'd re-list on the same website so soon after the original closing date if it had all gone to plan."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
I can't see there is any harm in re-applying as long as they have not stated that "previous applicants need not apply" as I have seen some do before. Of course there is always the possibility that they say no again, but does that really matter?
And if they recognise you from your last appllication, at least it shows you are keen.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.0 -

oic, in that case, I agree with Duncan's Mum! It can't hurt.
You can usually get the agency's details if you look at the "contacts" section. I usually try to apply through as few 3rd parties as possible. Sometimes there's a chain of several "job websites" before your application gets to the actual agency. They each take a % finders fee from what I can gather, so I figure it's best to go straight to the employer/agency.
If you've already applied, did you have an interview? I'd feel more confident applying straight to the employer rather than go through an agency.
bear in mind though, it is still possible that it is the same position, just out of date, despite you seeing it somewhere else with a different form etc (again, just the last job I applied to had this). I have seen this before also, and I've read several times that employers do not like applicants who apply several times through different channels. Wouldn't they just have gone to the 2nd best person? Or maybe they couldn't find ANYONE suitable?!
Sorry, don't mean to discourage you. You do indeed have to be in it to win it Make sure your covering letter is perfect!
Best of luck.0 -
Give it a try, theres no harm in doing it, you wont know what the answer is until you apply0

It now seems to be a straightforward 'e-mail your CV and covering letter to our HR department' type thing rather than going through an agency of any kind, so I shall just do that.
Sadly I didn't get to the interview stage first time though. But as you and others have said, nothing ventured nothing gained..."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -

Do you know why you didn't get past the interview stage? Try and find out why if you can and then you can negotiate around that. Why not try again, nothingto lose.
Good luck!0
