Back in April me and hubby stayed at the Ramada hotel on Princes street, its right between Marks & Spencers and Jenners, anyway we got a fab rate thru a Daily Mail offer.
We paid £88 for 2 nights including a to die for breakfast.

Rooms were smallish and basic, but it was clean and comfortable, and we were only using it as a base to sleep...

I've only every stayed in the Travelodge, but it's a great location. Although quite pricey most of the time for what it is, i.e. a travelodge! But then so is most of Edinburgh.

Not very. If you're going to Edinburgh do it properly and stay in the centre!

Try the Holiday Inn by the zoo, a short bus ride to the centre and you have a main attraction on your doorstep!! It also has a leisure club on site and a very nice Chinese resteraunt.

The Ramada is in a great location as has been mentioned above. Try a site like www.hotelpricefinder.com which compares the prices of all the hotels from various hotel websites.

We did that too - they upgraded us as well for free so our room wasn't small at all. I think it had recently been updated too.

If you can find a similar offer then it's fantastic value for money! The Ramada is also virtually opposite Waverley so you couldn't get much closer if you tried. We did pay extra for breakfast - I'm sure the room was only £60 for the two nights. If I did it again then I'd pop downstairs to the store that sells breakfasts in their cafe for cheaper than the hotel, I'm sure it was BHS. Anyway, it's virtually underneath the hotel.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
