Advice on gas & elec rates :)
Hello,
I would really appreciate your thoughts on the rates I am on. I have done some comparisons but it seems that every supplier that looks much better - doesn't serve my area? - Suffolk.
I am paying: Elec: first 1719 @ 4.870p (night rate)
first 350 @ 25.530p (day rate)
next 148 @ 14.67p (day rate)
Gas: First 3568 @ 8.261p
Next 6389 @ 2.507p
I am quite confused by it - I am not sure if the first rate is a set amount or a percentage of usage? I received a letter from N Power this week asking for a day & night meter readings as they think the meter may be recording day / night the wrong way round???
Any advice on rates would be fab!
Thanks

Which suppliers do not supply Suffolk?
Ask nPower for your annual consumption in kWh of both gas & electricity. I see you are on E7 so ensure they give separate consumption of electricity for day & night periods.
Then use a couple of the comparison sites in the resource bar above and see what supplier & tariff gives best value for your situation.
You need to use the comparison sites as the cost will not only be made up of the unit cost, because of the multitude of varied discounts that may apply e.g. discount for prompt payment by DD, discount for dual fuel, discount for paperless billing...the list is almost endless.
The reason for 2 tier pricing is simply because you are on a no standing charge tariff. The initial higher rate is applied to enable the supplier to recoup the standing charge that would otherwise apply. When you have reached the quantity of the first tier price is set at, then you would have effectively paid the premium you would otherwise have paid with a standing charge."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
They are much more expensive than my npower rates.0

Thanks for info that is really useful.
I'll continue checking out the comparisons and see if I can get a little further. I also think they sound high rates.
