Bank Charges - Can they continue while 'on hold'

Good Morning!

I've currently been having arguments with RBS since November '08 regarding my account.

They originally charged me for a failed payment, and when I sent them in a letter of complaint in November 2008 they ignored my letter. (They claim that they didn't receive it)

I then wrote to them again in February but this time, I handed the letter into their Charges Unit in person... Again though, they claim that they didn't receive it.

A week later, I handed in my third letter & got a receipt.

I finally received a letter from RBS saying that my account was on hold and I got a standard letter talking about the court case that everyone is aware about etc...

What I want to know though, is are RBS allowed to keep piling on the £30 charge each month while this is 'on hold', or should that have stopped??

Yes they are allowed to continue charging you.

If you are in a circle of charges and struggling then consider moving accounts elsewhere and starting fresh and setting up a repayment of any debt left behind.

Or if you consider yourself in financial difficulty you can tell the bank you are complaining about the charges under an exemption in the waiver and they can look at moving you to a basic account, stopping charges and interest, refunding a portion to go to priority arrears/budget deficit etc. Have a look at the Hardship Claiming guide in the article.s

My account is already as basic as they come.

It's the same bank account that I opened and used when I was 14yr old, so I only have a cashline card.
