Windows live messenger help the aged plz plz plz

Hi i was wondering if some techie people here can help an old man with his computer especially Windows live messenger the one that i can talk with family on. everytime i go to connect i get a sign up and it says (it doesn't talk really)
WINDOWS LIVE COMMUNICATION PLATFORM has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienience.
the error report says,
APP NAME: Wlcomm.exe
APPVER: 14.0.8064.206
MOD NAME: ntdll.dll
MODVER: 5.1.2600.5755
OFFSET: 00036efa.
I havent a clue if the last list of things are any good to you but i tried to give you guys as much info as i could get. any help please would be mighty appreciated once again. :beer:

From another forum but worth a try...Make sure you exit MSN.
1.Click Start
2.Click My Computer
3.Double Click Local Disk (C )
4.Double Click Program files
5.Double Click Windows Live
6.Double Click Contacts
7.Right Click wlcomm and click on Properties
8.Click the Compatibility tab and in the Compatibility Mode box put a tick and select Windows 98/Windows ME and click OK.
Try that and let us know if it works or not
