Gran Canaria taxi or hire car

Hi all

We are going to Gran Canaria on Monday and wondered if anyone could help us decide if we should hire a car for the week or transfer by taxi. We are staying in Playa del ingles and if I remember correctly taxi transfers cost about £50-£60 return. What I don't know is how much a car would cost to hire for the week. If it's not too expensive we will hire a car but we don't want to pay loads more as we don't want to be driving around all week, we just want to laze in the sun.

Any info would be appreciated or sites we can check out ourselves.

Thanks :T

  • Hi, I don't know much about Gran Canaria but if the holiday company is charging £50-£60 for a taxi then doing it locally will be much cheaper. Not sure what price you're quoting there.

Car hire for a week will be about £100 for a small car

    Thanks joe_cool_joe

The £50-£60 I was quoting is around about what I think I paid last time I was in Gran Canaria for taxi transfers, paying locally. It may have gone up a little now, so if I can hire a car for around £100 then that is what I will do. Do you have the name of a decent car hire co. in Gran Canaria?

Hi, we went to Playa del Ingles in January, from memory it was 30 euros each way in a taxi.
We did think of hiring a car from the airport but it was expensive, so if you are going to get one book it in the UK before you go.
Had a quick look on holidayautos and seems to be nearer to £120 for the week, use a site like Kelkoo you might find it cheaper
    Enjoy your holiday, we did

If you aren't going to use it you run the risk of it getting damaged, even when parked, and you might have to pay for parking.

  • I used Holiday Autos. Looking today, £87 would get you a Ford Ka or similar for a week. When I went, I paid about £100 for a 206 and was upgraded to a 307.

I'll be out there in June (Puerto Rico) and will be looking to hire a car. Haven't booked the flights yet - best I've seen is £500 for 3 adults (taking mother-in-law).

    :)

Its about 35/40 euro EW for a taxi to Playa del Ingles/Maspalomas (in that order)
Once in resort taxis are really cheap around 2-3 euro so unless you are planning on going far, a hire car isnt really neccessary.
