Does anyone else remember a time when you could use any money off voucher regardless of whether or not you bought the product? Does anyone know if there are any supermarkets which still do this?

Hi Lem
I use coupons out of magazines etc and have had no problem using them at Tescos, even if I have not bought the items. Unless you buy their items they will not accept Tescos coupons.

hi..ye i get no problem in tescos either, but depending on the sales assistant, on how many they will except...i get my money off coupons when i send away for the freebies, and also joined pampers/huggies club... plus i go to the voucher and codes catagory, to see whats about especially in the newspapers, as it saves buying the papers if there is nothing in them....
i just hand over a pile to the sa... and leave it up to them how many and which ones they except......
i have saved loads of money over the last few weeks that i have started back using them.......tried it you've got nothing to lose........Work to live= not live to work0 -
I have been lead to believe that for Tescos it is a national policy. But it really depends on the manager and if wants to take them.
I asked in my local Tescos and was told they would take one if not buying the item.
So you might like to ask at customer services before doing a shop in any of the supermarkets. Or ring them up and ask what there policy is.
Only thing is Tescos are 0845 number but it seems that the rest e.g Morrisons, Sainsburys, Somerfield etc you can ring each store directly. Number normally on top of the till reciept.

My local Asda takes vouchers and you don't have to have bought the product. They won't take vouchers printed off the internet.Books - the original virtual reality.

My Asda take them if they stock the product only for 10% though and last time the cashier told me that she'd take 6 maximum. Since this was the very 1st time I'd been told that one I greeted it with ok I'll just find the highest value ones for you toknock off my bill

Hi everyone

By far the best place to ask these questions is our vouchers board where all the vouchers demons and vouchers demonesses live so I've moved the thread across.
Good luck all

Hiya Squeaky I like the demoness description
I have posted many times on this board of my vocher usage at Tescos. Today, I spent £89, with BOGOFs reduced to £80 - using some vouchers it came to £60.25 ! so in effect £28ish worth of free shopping. I shop at Tescos and if they sell the product they are quite happy for me to redeem my vouchers provided they are in date. However, there is always exceptions to the rules and no two Tescos are alike. Different policies exist at different stores. I have asked Tesco Head office for clarification of their policy and I have copied it below:
Thank you for your email. Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that these actual products will be purchased.
With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.
This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain our policy. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us

Therefore, if you have 6 vouchers for duracell batteries you could not use them in one go BUT if you have 6 assorted vouchers in theory you should be able to redeem them without buying the products. However, my voucher usage is a BONUS but not an automatic right.
Hope that helps.

I totally agree Welshy, there have been times that I've been refused vouchers and I've accepted it and have tried again next time. The policy even changes from checkout to checkout. There is no need to run outside

Couldn't agree with you further, the young male SA on the till today, did not make eye contact, offer to pack my bags or even say hello. I just had the feeling he really didn't want to be there and if I'd put a £50 voucher infront of him he still would have scanned it ! However, if I get a female SA they tend to scrunitize everything and every word on my vouchers. It really depends on the checkout person.
