Well I've currently got these as longer term investments:
iShares S&P 500
Powershares Global New Energy
ETFS DJ-UBS All Commodities
Is your leveraged fund doing OK?0 -
Yes I only bought LPET on 24th and it's up 10% for me (taking charges into account).
It's a v. v. small part of my portfolio where I wanted exposure to oil/gas, and I class it as "super risk" :P. I hope to hold it for a while. Looking on google finance it appears to be at a very low level compared to past (but that was when oil prices spiked like crazy):

I'm going to look into the Global New Energy one you mentioned, I'd like more exposure to power (especially nuclear) and diversify what I hold now.0 -

I'd be wary of leveraged ETF's unless you fully understand how they work, they really work best for daytrading.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

A leveraged or short etf is a special case, it wont achieve 100% tracking performance. Theres a couple of good articles out there but the bottom line is dont hold them too long if you can avoid it because they leak value, applies even more to leverage then a short I think
Which broker do you use btw?

I hoped this thread would have some more discussion...
As you can see by my post above, I've got a broad spread and in fact this ETF portfolio is the core of my holdings. I have planned allocation percentages based around these different ETFs.
My ongoing plan (temporarily suspended due to lack of income due to recession!!) is to save enough over three months in cash to then go in and purchase the correct amount of each ETF. In this way it's worthwhile with the transaction cost through iii (£1.50 where possible). If I tried to buy every month then I would lose too much in costs.
I also have some bond funds in an ISA and over time I plan to keep as much as possible of my fixed interest holdings in the ISA due to the interest treatment. Plus somehow I don't see bonds as being that suited to passive investment, although I haven't figured out exactly why I think this...
I also have a pension which is managed by an IFA and is all in funds but this has far less in and I try to ignore it and let it grow quietly off in the corner.
My only other holding is some LLOY which I couldn't resist earlier this year and are now up 100%
