Car issues

Hiya, good ppl I went bankrupt last week finally! I still have to do my phone interview as missed the call on friday (boo) so will be phoning them back on monday.
I am sure I am going to be able to keep my car as I have to have it to get to work (its a little banger paid around £500 but not anymore), work in a village so no buses.
Problem is I have just been quoted nearly 1k worth of problems on the car, do or die really. Now I can pay for this (which is probably silly) or another option has come up - a close relative wants to buy themselves a car they have offered to let me use it on the condition I use my car as a deposit and I cover all the costs of running it, they are not around for most of the year so would be my own basically and shared when they are here; so its a pretty good option for me right now. Does anyone know if this would be allowed? I don't think I would be allowed to pay to fix my car anyway and its pointless just paying out for another banger just to come across more problems.
Thank you all :j

Hi Porcupine and welcome! Congratulations on your BR! I wouldn't do anything with the car until you know it is exempt and I wouldn't mention costly repairs in case the OR decides to take it for that reason.

Hi does anyone know about if someone puts their car in your name, even though I was made bankrupt in Feb 090

The legal owner and the registered keeper are not the same thing, you can be the registered keeper and the close relative would still be the owner if they paid for itHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
thank you yeah I know what you mean about not mentioning it have been going back and forth for that reason, but what about afterwards so if car is made exempt, is there anything stopping afterwards from going ahead with this plan? I need to act fast as it is going to conk out soon! Worst case they do take it away its not worth much really because of its problems, would I still be allowed my allowance for the car?......lesson about buying crap cars is being learnt fast0

if the car is not exempt you do not get an allowance for a carHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

sorry will rephrase that as it came out wrong, if the car is made exempt (as I realise I wouldn't get car expenses if it wasn't) and I had to use someone else's car instead due to my first post would I still be allowed my car expenses? As I said before no car no work, so effectively they put me out of a job if they take away my car which I highly doubt they would do
I don't even have the option of car schemes as we all work shifts so matching times up with ppl in my area (which are few most come from the other side of the village) is virtually impossible and no buses to get me home 0 -
ahhh.. The expenses alowed for a car have nothing to do with owning a car, many people use a family car or use a compay car or a lease/hire car all of which would not be owned by them but are allowed the expenses because this is what they contribute towars the upkeep. As long as it is proportional there should be no problemHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

Cool thanks, but am I under obligation to let them know the change in my circumstances? ie after tomorrow I will need to make a decision on repairs or going for the use of someone elses using mine as a deposit? Is it mine to do what I want with once all is approved, as it wouldn't really change what I am paying out....oh the fustration of the whole thing wish it could all just be simple

I suggest you wait until you have spoken to the OR and get the go ahead for exemption.Im in a similar situation but with no kind relative to bail me out and need a car for work.I have my OR phone call booked for wednesday. My car went into the garage 2 weeks after i had booked my hearing.repairs will cost more than the car is worth.great hey.just when i was starting to get myself sorted.0
