This is the 4-device model, which I suspect is half-price since there's now a second generation model available (this is first generation). I've had the 6-device version for 18 months and would make the following comments:-

    1) It really does eat batteries - I eventually bought some rechargables for it since I was sick of having to purchase replacements! This is mainly due, I believe, to point 2)...

    2) The illumination is triggered by movement, but it's too sensitive and frequently illuminates just by someone walking past it! Also try watching a movie with the lights off and this thing on the sofa next to you - each time you move it'll blind you!

    3) When illuminated it emits a faint high-pitched tone - if it's near your head on the sofa can be a bit annoying.

    4) Although my version additionally controls a hi-fi and CD player, I only use TV, video, DVD player and Sky box functions, which all work very well. Don't know about Sky+ or cable box functionality I'm afraid, but I know you can teach it new functions using your existing remote control.

    5) It does look pretty snazzy, but is a little on the large side.

You can see more details of the model that's on offer on the official website here, and for comparison you can see the new (improved?) second generation model here.

I would definitely say it's worth buying for £25 - we bought our version when it had just been released and paid £70 (wife and I are both gadget freaks)!

I think I read somewhere that somebody opened this remote control up and soldered a point so that it only lit up if you tapped the remote instead of walking past it. The batteries lasted a lot longer then.

It should definitely work with telewest.

I have set the remote control so it does not come on automatically. You have to press any part of the remote and to activate it!! it will then turn itself off after about 2-3 seconds after you have stopped using it! Which would help with the battery power as that seems to be one of the most downfalls that people are mentioning.

So I would say go and buy one to anyone thinkng about it..and lets face it if you dont like it and it does not work with any of your systems you can always take it back as we asked before we bought and as long as we kept our receipt the shop assistant said their was no prblem...so worth a try!!

For those who are interested, there is a 10 in 1 remote in Poundland. I have one and it works fine….and besides for a £1 you can hardly go wrong…. The same retails for £7.99 or so in T.J. Hughes.

Okay I admit doesn’t look as fancy as this one…but hey, it does the job! Sorry haven’t tried it with a Sky/ntl/telewest box.
    My reality check bounced.
  • i know it may not be the best one in the world but i picked a UET609 think its a 9 in one up from poundland, netto also have some in for £2.99. for a quid you can,t really go wrong if you only keep it as a back up ;)

Yeah, just set it to come on through keypress rather than movement and you should be fine.

I think you had to press the Magic button and wait for the rabbit. The I think it was 989 to change the activation settings. If it blinks twice it's on movement and if it blinks four times it's keypress.

This is from memory so I may be wrong. You can definately set them though. It;s in the instruction book anyway.

    Hello,
    How did you adjust it?
I managed to reduce the brightness which increased battery life but it still activates its self whist sitting on the coffee table. ???
