Does anybody have any tried and tested home remedies for a sore throat? I can't eat anything and am having trouble swallowing my own saliva!

The best ever remedy is sea salt ... Morrisons sell it in a green tube container with a ship on the front (trying to think of the name but can't bring it to mind!) ... you want the "fine" ... not the coarse.
Put a good two tablespoons in a cup and half fill it with boiling water. Let it cool a little until it's comfortable to gargle with.
Gargle AT LEAST four times a day (making a fresh lot each time) ... it is very healing and really does the trick, even with septic throats.0 -
milk chocolate.
I know, it sounds nuts, but it sort of coats the throat and gives temporary relief. A square or two as and when though: eating the whole bar in a sitting does not prolongue the result. Since my lovely doctor passed on this tip if I'm buying lemsip I'm also buying milk chocolate. Weirdly, perhaps because of the cheaper fats, bog standard milk chocolate (e.g. Cadburys or similar) is a bit better than very nice quality chocolate.0 -
A mug of tea (no milk) with lemon, add 1 tablespoon honey and a soluble painkiller.
The soluble painkiller will act quicker (as well as being easier to swallow) than a whole regular one and the honey will ease your throat, while the warm tea just makes you feel a bit better2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

spoonfuls of runny honey.
I remember as a child, many years ago my mum used to give us kids a small knob of butter rolled in sugar. The butter (probably marge now i think about it - Echo marge ) was the soother and the sugar scratched the itch:rolleyes:
I can see the logic but cant remember whether it worked or not.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

this works for me, into a pan of boiling water, grate some fresh peeled ginger, squeeze half a lemon and chuck the bits in anyway, simmer this mix until ginger and lemon looks "cooked" add honey to taste. drink hot or cold... MMMmmm lovely and soothing.
