I think? you go into your User CP - in the menu bar
Under settings and options - select edit options
At the bottom, under miscellaneous options select enhanced interface full wysiwyg editing and save changes.

What version of Internet Explorer is it? If you to to Help -> About it'll say.
The fastest and easiest way to resolve this problem is to download Firefox and use that as your main broswer. Internet Explorer is known for many security holes and isn't widely used by people within IT. Firefox on the other hand is widely praised and offers a lot more functionality e.g. add-ons.0
