Claiming Back Bank Charges?

Hi,
Back when I was very young and niave (from about 18-21 and I'm 25 now) I had bank accounts with Barclays, Llloyds TSB and Natwest which all went overdrawn with bank charges.
After my sister managed to claim back £350 in two weeks from Barclays it got me wondering if I could do the same.
All of the accounts went overdrawn and were sent to debt collection agencies which I have subsequently paid off.
So is it possible for me to claim back these charges on accounts from this long ago and also on closed accounts?

You can claim charges on bank accounts even if they are closed back to July 2001.Hi,

It is unlikely it will take 2 weeks since there is the OFT test case which is ongoing. However start the process and you will see how much that they owe you.0 -
Does this apply even if I can't remember the sort codes and account number?
And with these accounts probably being closed anywhere from 2002-2004 where would I ask for statements from and to?
Thank you0 -

Yes you can. You need to tell them date of birth, address at the time the account was opened and if you can remember roughly when you opened the account it would be helpful.
Furthermore, for added measure tell them that under the FSA Waiver on Bank Charges they have a duty to provide statements from July 2001 until the date of the account be closed.0 -
So...if you say July 2001 (I was 17 at the time so didn't have any charges anyway) I can claim basically from then up until the point the account was closed? And all I need to do is call them and request bank statements for the six years from then?
Sorry I'm all new to this as I've just realised I might be able to claim.0 -
I would never ring up cos that means you are at the mercy of a gap year student working in a call centre for a year(no disrespect meant to gap year students). The spiel you will get is 6 years only.So...if you say July 2001 (I was 17 at the time so didn't have any charges anyway) I can claim basically from then up until the point the account was closed? Put it in writing and there is a statutory fee which you need to include which is £10.000 -
Thanks,
I'll certainly get on and start requesting them tomorrow.0
