I have an Epson S20, got it new for nothing so a genuine bargain and have no complaints about its operation until last night when the Cyan cartridge ran out.

Can anyone tell me if there is any way I can print non-colour documents when one of the colour cartridges is empty?

I have ordered more online but they wont get to me until Wednesday at the earliest and there is nowhere local that is open today.

You don't say which OS your computer is running, but generally most will have an option in the print menu (which pops up after File --> Print...) to print the document in greyscale.

Thanks Ed, I am running XP and have the default setting as draft/economy greyscale but printer wont do anything, the light is flashing to signify out of ink and it just will not do a damn thing.

Sometimes printers lock themselves out when a cartridge is out (like Xerox). For your specified item you want to print, go to print preferences and you can choose to print in grey-scale only

Did that, wont work, there is an option for black ink only, it still wont print.
I will not get a chance to get to any shops because of work so I doubt I will need to wait for the delivery.

The newer epsons with the intelli cartridges lock out when any colour or black runs out, id invest in some compatibles and a chip resetter :D
  • This is just another example of why I will never buy another epson printer. Mine is the same, if one colour cartridge runs out it won't print anything, even if 'print in black & white' is selected from the properties menu. Also mine has two black cartridges (D120) and if one runs out both have to be replaced before printing can resume.

most new inkjet printers will not allow you to continue printing when one of the cartridges is empty.

there is no money to be made if they let you do that
