Hi all,
I have got my car insured, with esure with a 6 years NCB. From the very beginning, my wife has been a named driver on the policy. She got her full driving license less than a year back, though.
Now, I have bought a car for my wife which is 3 times more expensive than mine and I want to get it insured. Esure says that I won't be able to use my 5 years NCB on second car and the insurance will start from 0 NCB.
Apparently, I have only one option left to leave esure and search some company which can acknowledge my NCB for both cars and preferably enable the named driver on the policy to earn their own NCB while being with them as a named driver on a policy. Can somebody please, give me an advice to get a good insurance quote please.
One more thing, my car insurance with esure ends in a couple of days, so I am in a position to leave them in case, I find something better somewhere else.
Best Regards

There are plenty of companies that will "Mirror" your no claims bonus on to a policy for your wife, in fact there are many companies that actively look for this type of business as they find second cars for wives are good risks.
The easy way to do it would be to pop into a local broker (Not Swintons) and they will know the companies that offer this.
Alternatively run a quote through in your wives name on a comparison site (It is normally cheaper in their name unless they are much younger than you) and then ring the companies that come up top and ask if they will mirror the no claims bonus for your wife. After a while you will find one0 -
wow. Thats pretty quick and very helpful.

You mean, I should run a quote through in my "wife's" name
, with a six years NCB as she has been named driver with me for six years. Do they need any standard document as a proof of this, and would I be able to get that from esure.
The concept of insurance brokers is quite new for me, where could I find them dacouch. :rolleyes:0 -

i think you need to look at your wife being a new driver - some of the mirrored discount she will need to have held a licence for 2 years
churchill will allow your named driver to build up named driver no claims discount - and give a discount for both cars at the address, but wont allow the ncd to be mirrored or used for both cars.0 -
You can find one using this too, by entering in your post code http://www.biba.org.uk/ConsumerHome.aspx (They tend to work office hours eg monday to friday and saturday mornings). http://www.biba.org.uk/ConsumerHome.aspx
You often find local brokers in town centres on the roads just off the High Streets, they are not always the cheapest but will do all the running around for you so are ideal in your case. If you have a claim then you have them on your side to help out etc.
When your policy is due for renewal it the "Renewal Notice" might actually show you have maximum no claims bonus without mentioning it was mirrored. If it states you have something along the lines of "5 or more years no claims bonus" without mentioning it was an introductory discount / mirrored then you could use it to use online companies for quotes next year with maximum bonus if thats what floats your boat.0 -
I missed the part about only holding her licence for under a year, this will put some companies off mirroring the no claims bonus but not all.0

Thanks everybody, thats quite helpful. So, I have got the following options now, in order of preference.
1. Search for companies which will mirror my NCB for my wife as main policy holder for second car.
2. Search for companies, which will mirror my NCB for both cars, me as a main policy holder and my wife as a named driver.
3. Insurance brokers.
One thing, I forgot to mention though. She has been driving as a full driving license holder for 6 years abroad before we came here. So, she is not a young new driver, I am not sure if that makes any difference at all.
Any thoughts, please ???0 -
As she has held a full licence elsewhere (Especially if its an EEC licence) I personally would go down the broker route as brokers come in to their own on unusual cases where they can use their knowledge. Your case would fit this criteria.0
