Problem D/L LG software onto laptop

Hi all,
I need to post this quickly from memory so I may have missed some vital infomation but i'll try and make it as comprehensive as possible!
I am trying to load the LG software that comes with the LG Viewty onto my laptop but am having 2 problems. I'm not sure if they are linked...
I get to the end of the installation and I get a message that says "please restart your computer for the settings to take effect." so I click the "restart your computer now" button but instead of restarting, it starts a second installation process saying it is going to install the LG USB modem software. Fine, except towards the end of that process it stalls and I have to CTRL, ALT DEL to get the file manager up to stop it. When I restart, the software is installed but if I try to use it, for example to download some photos from my phone to the laptop, an error message comes up saying "invalid access to storage area" (or similar, can't remember exactly, I'm hoping this will be enough to jog someones memory!)
Please help. I have installed and uninstalled this a couple of times and I don't want to mess up my new laptop before I even get started!!
Thanks in advance

Thanks, As I said, the 2nd installations doesn't finish. And I tried leaving the phone detached until install complete...but install never completes
