Plastering help!

Ok i yesterday had my radiator taken off the wall in the kitchen and the pipes set back into the walls..this left a hole roughly 7x7" big..i last night re plastered the wall but there is a prob i thought i had fixed and this morning doesnt appeared to have worked!
The pipes are in the wall BUT they are protruding very slightly out unless pushed in and held..this meant without me putting something across the hole inside to keep them back there would be a lump..i put a stick across the inside of the wall holding the 2 pipe ends back and then plastered as normal..looked good and with a sand and poss re fill this morning thought all was well..nope its split at the bottom and im not sure what to do..Help please!
(thinking some of the wall behind may have to be chiselled out to allow them to be pushed back? have to be careful though as dont want to break anything!)
Thanks

either make the chase deeper, and or use more pipe clips to hold the pipes firm.Get some gorm.0

Ok have sorted pipe and have the wood cut, only thing im wondering if it makes difference to is the wood is smooth one side and rough the other..does it make a difference to which side i put on the inside of the wall or the outside that will come into contact with the plaster?
Thanks0 -
probably not make that much difference. but i would put the rough side to the outside as an extra grip for the plaster.Get some gorm.0
