Bathroom quote

Hi,
I'm slightly concerned after seeing other bathroom quotes here on whether mine is reasonable. I currently have quite a small bathroom and we have been quoted £4,000 for the work done to renovate it.
This includes removing a wall and rebuilding it further back, removing ceiling and replastering (is currently artexed!), removing tiles (currently fully tiled) installing bathroom suite, heated towel rail, plastering walls, tiling floor and walls around bath, moving pipe to outside wall, painting and putting in new spotlights (got a central light currently), installing extractor fan. Hmmm... think that's about it. We are supplying the tiles and bathroom suite.
This is due to take a week. I know they do a good job as they did some work for us on the insurance after our hot water tank overflowed and brought down our living room ceiling!!
Would appreciate any comments/questions to ask?

£4000!?!?!?
We had half tiled bathroom and left the ceiling alone and it was £2500 including suite and tiles. We also had a wall removed but didn't have it put back up.
I would expect your bathroom to be luxurious for this.
If you are looking to save money leave the spotlights and ceiling, source your products online (I got my tiles and towel radiator from eBay), and do you really need that wall?Kavanne

Good morning: Using other posts on here as a a measure to gauge the cost of building works can be problematic. Get 3 quotes in from tradespersons recommended to you by sources you trust, compare like for like and then decide how to proceed. You could also use the CIPHE 'Find a plumber' facility.
Costs will be dependent on your location in the UK and the standard of the specification. The OH works in the southeast and a job in excess of the amount you have quoted is not uncommon.

Hi hjw
I personally would say that the price is a tad high especially as you are supplying basically everything. It is hard to say without actually seeing the job but it sounds to me like a £2.5k to £3k job. Then again, i am in South Wales where its a bit cheaper anyway.
Does the ceiling need to be taken down and replaced? Could it not just be skimmed over or even reboarded over the existing and then skimmed. This would save some £'s and would be a heck of a lot less mess.
I agree with Canucklehead......always get at least 3 quotes, preferably from people that have done work for friends or family. Make sure you get references from all of them and call these references up. Even go look at some of their work if its ok with the referee.

Thanks guys. Ooh, i'm confused now - I went with him because he had done work for us previously and I knew he was good but I might ask around. Don't think he's ripping us off - probably just more expensive than most. That price did include VAT btw.0
