Massive gas and electric bills
Was wondering if someone could tell me if this sounds right. We have been paying since January 09 £255 direct debit a month to scottish power for our gas and electric.Anyway,we have just recieved a bill because we stopped last month DD saying we owe upto 27/7/09 nearly £800 still. We live in a 3 bedroom end terrace,we have the heating on for an hour in the morning and 90 minutes at night and do take a bath every night. We also have the usual electric stuff running, telly, washer dryer etc.So basically since January according to Scottish power we have used nearly £1500 worth of electric and gas.
Does this sound right?I mean the readings they have estimated are actually under the current readings. But when i run a bath the gas meter whirls round for fun.
Cheers Mark

255 a month does seem incredibly high for a 3 bed house
it's not as if you have the heating on all day
the only thing that will eat up juice that you could not use is the dryer0 -
I signed up with SP 1.9.08 and for gas and electric dd was set at 96.00 a month - a year down the line it has gone up 4 times got a letter today new dd is now 192.00 - we are in a 3 bed semi no one here all day - I know things have gone up but this is silly - I had always been in credit before with B Gas and NPower - I am looking into changing back from 1.9.09 probably go back to BG and NP - wouldn't touch SP with a barge pole after this0

How much is for electricity and how much for gas?
Are the bills based on estimates or actual readings?
Do the readings on the bills tie up with those you took when you moved in?
Do you have the hot water heating on all the time? If so, is the tank well insulated?0 -
For comparison, I have my hot water on for an hour each morning, heating on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening in the winter, washing machine twice a week (also tumble drier in the winter) and pay about £50 a month. 3 bed detached house.0
