What do I need to take on a caravan holiday?

Options
I'm sure I asked this question last year but I can't find the thread

We're staying on a haven site, so the kitchen will be fully equipped. Linen is provided.

Just wondering what sort of things I should take like bin bags, dishcloths, washing up liquid etc. What things do you find useful when staying in a caravan?

Thanks!

take your own frying pan just in case
the one provided is rubbish nothing worse than
a frying pan when the non sticks rubbish.
if you use a veg peeler take one,we always
take a small 6 inch blade serrated edged knife
    handy for cutting veg,cakes,cheese even
loaves.couple of mugs in case they provide
those ones that look llike mugs but dont
hold much tea.I usualy take a packet of
disposable plastic spoons and cups that
can be thrown away handy for picnics.
    Poundland is great for them.

    also those
large laundry bags the checked ones to
put all your dirty washing in then when
you get home they can be dumped in the
kitchen ready for washing.SAves having a
jumble of clean and dirty stuff together,
kids are terrible at keeping clothes sorted

Salt/pepper/vinegar/mixed herbs/condiments. A weeks worth of anything you use over the space of a week. It's these little odd's n sods that campsite shops rip you off for, bigtime.

Same as Tea, coffee...a couple of bin bags, loo rolls, two tea towels, washing up stuff. Get it right and it'll save you quite a bit.

I would second the kitchen knife...and a tin opener, as theirs are nearly always rubbish...

Also dont forget bath and hand towels...also I always take a small bath mat to put near the shower as the floor will be slippery.

And if you are taking wine and beer a bottle opener would be usefull.

  • I'll second the small bath mat idea. Every year I forget to pack one and have to use one of my hand towels!!
Matches are another useful item as the gas cookers very rarely have an ignition button that works. I also take my pizza cutter as pizza is one of our favourite "caravan" meals....

I would echo all the suggestions above - I try and remember to take a small plastic chopping board too (but depends on how much cooking you are planning on doing yourself!). Have fun!

I also like to take our own pillows, just one each - nothing nicer than putting your head on your own pillow and kids use these in the car during the journey too, to stay comfortable - and too add my slow cooker - never go away without this.

  • We have a caravan box that we take each year but dont use/have doubles at home. This box includes ~ thermos mugs/flasks, matches, chopping board (eww at the wooden ones that are sometimes supplied), knife's, torch, bath mats, shower mat, picnic bags, cleaning supplies (worktop sprays/washing up liquid/soap/bleach), tea towels, washing brushes/cloths, batteries (AA for the remote/s), games, first aid kit, dustpan and brush, air freshners (replaced before new trip) and then use the empty box for washing sandy feet.

We do also take our steamer on holiday because I prefer my veg cooked this way, extra pillows/blankets, old bath towels and the usual clothes etc. However the main thing is find a large supermarket chain near by (morrisons/asda/tesco) that way if you forget something then you can pop out and get it instead of using the shop :T
  • If you're going to stop at a service station on your way, raid the caf! bit for packets of sauces, sugar, salt and pepper etc. It's stuff like that which saves you loads of money.

Also find where the nearest big supermarket is and buy any necessary food and house supplies there as it will most likely be miles cheaper than the campsite shop if there is one.

I always take my own pillows when I go on holiday, I think the smell of 'home' makes me sleep better. Also bath towels as some places provide them and some don't, so best to be safe than sorry.

What a fab idea! Been trying to think of somewhere to "borrow" some from :o

Definitely going to take my own pillow also!

We've been shopping today and bought a few things which we will freeze but should keep fresh once defrosted (meat etc) which we will take in our coolbag.

Thanks for the suggestions! Now I wish Monday would hurry up and come so we can get going!
