lawn mowing service

I know it's not exactly moneysaving, but does anyone here use a lawn mowing service? Was wondering how much it costs (London prices!) - it's the one job I never seem to get done and it is so depressing to look at! Don't want the whole garden done, just the lawn mowed once a week or fortnight. Garden is about 50 ft long, 25 ft wide.

A client of mine used a grass cutting service, or lawn mower service, they did the front and back, and TBH was quite small, one guy strimmed, and one mowed, they are there between 10-15 mins each time, and charge them £15, this is in the south east.

Gardener's in London suburbs seem to charge from £13-£15 per hour as far as my research goes.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Could you not put an advert in the local shop for a schoolchild to do the work. It would give them some extra money and give them an interest.

I need someone to mow my lawn too and I thought of this but was worried about the possibility of them having an accident.

    has anyone else done this?

Health & safety would come into this I fear & you'd need to have insurance in case of an accident. Imagine how you'd feel if they did have an accident.

I have some kids from a youth project come & help in my garden from time to time & it's only anybody over the age of 18 that they allow to use my mower because of health & safety rules. I think I'd worry myself sick if some of the younger ones with no experience of an electric mower were to take charge of it & I'd be standing over them, heart in mouth.:o

Hi there, this is always a difficult one, due to Health and Safety as mentioned before.
I am a Greenkeeper up here in Scotland on a championship golf course and i do the odd job after work, mowing lawns, fertilising, weedkilling etc, so my advice is based on my experience and is up here in SCO!
Mowing a grass of your size will take no time at all, and will cost the person very little, the costs will be for Fuel for Mower/Strimmer and travel.

If it were me and i was only mowing the grass once a fortnight, removing grass clippings and strimming any edges i would be charging around £15-£20. You need to bear in mind the travel, unless the person is doing a number of gardens in your street they will be simply travelling to do your grass only, so it may only take ...lets say 20mins all in to do the grass, but may take the same to get to and from your house.

Hope this helps a little.

I'm a gardener in Berkshire and I would charge £15 for one hour inc use of my own mower and strimmer (which I prefer to do as I get a better finish than most basic domestic equipment).

However, if the lawn is particularly small or only takes half hour then I will normally go for a tenner of something thats fair to the customer.

Recently I heard of someone who charges £20 per hour to cut a lawn without doing th edges whatsover (ie strimming) so this was not good value imo. If I do a job, even if it's mowing a lawn, then I want it to look good when i've finished - this bloke was obviously just in it for the dosh! So try to get a recommendation.

    Hope this helps?
