Help with choosing a digital camera please?

I'm looking for a compact digital camera (not DSLR), which can take quite a few frames per second, which apparently is important. (This will be a gift for Christmas for someone close to me, so have plenty of time.)
I've been looking at some Casio models, which come into my price range, which is £250 max.

Personally, being a complete idiot when it comes to cameras, I'm opting for the FC100 model as it has 5x optical zoom, compared to FS10 which has 3x optical zoom. (The FC100 is also slightly cheaper, but not enough to make a difference when buying, if the FS10 has more going for it).
Is there anything else I should be considering within my price range? I'm getting a bit blinded by all the facts and figures when I've been looking.:o
Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you should go for something with better image quality - the Casio is good for continuous shooting but there's better out there when it comes to picture quality. The Fujifilm F200 exr is supposed to be good and there's a decent Panasonic Lumix in this price range while Canon are usually fairly decent.0

I have a cheaper Casio Exilim (£100ish model) which I do really like. I don't know much about cameras either, but it is better to have a camera with a higher optical than digital zoom.
My friend has recently got the new Panasonic Lumix T27 and she really likes it.0 -
Dont know whether this is worth mentioning but i cant cope with a camera with no viewfinder. The sun makes the image disappear so i just had to go with pot luck on one i bought but I managed to exchange it for one with a viewfind.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Do check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 at a local camera shop (e.g. Jessops) before you buy anything.
It's a magic piece of kit for those who don't want the bulk and weight of a DSLR (and who do want a viewfinder!).
Just within your £250 budget and has an 18x zoom plus a host of other goodies. :money:
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

If you are after a digital camera that can take 'a few frames a second', and your main aim is for the recipient to shoot video, then a digital camcorder is a better option.
If on the other hand, your recipient will be taking loads of photos then optical zoom is inportant. Don't go for one with digital zoom.Never Knowingly Understood.

Thanks to all. It is for photographs, not video. A very good point about the viewfinder, had not thought about that. I do have one on my much cheaper camera, which is very useful, shall extend my search. Any more pointers?0
