I just bought my first breadmaker!! A question....

Just wondered.......the recipe book I have uses butter, but I have used oil instead (weighed it out on the scales). Will this be ok? Probably should have checked before I started making it :o but my friend has one (different to mine) and hers uses oil.

Can't wait to make pizza dough in it!

    Oil is fine. Mine's the same and I only ever use oil.

    Was also wondering if there's anything else I should be aware of, AFAIK I've followed the recipe to the letter, do it matter if I don't add so much salt/sugar etc in future.

    Also my machine has a "raisin" bake, can I use this one if I want to add seeds to the mixture?

    I use less salt and less sugar. It's trial and error. I just reduced it each time until i got the result i wanted. I also use marg where it says use oil and it's fine.

    If you put things in when the beeper sounds it stops them from being chopped, so if you want seeds unchopped then this is the time to add them.

    Just a quick note...pizza dough is lovely made in the bread maker.

    i use oil in mine all the time. usually 60ml in a large loaf. it very much is trial and error. We had pizza for tea. yummy

    Im making a 600g loaf, I think it asked for 15g of butter so I have added 15g of oil. Seems such a small amount for a whole loaf, as did the salt (1 tsp). Thank you kippers for the tip about marg, that's why I used oil as I wasn't sure which would be the best out of the two, but will try with marg next time!

    Hi I only ever use olive oil in my breadmaker...my booklet says that 2Tbsp is equivalent to 25g of oil:) Which is how much is called for in a Large loaf:)

    Yes you could use less salt and sugar in the future...just try a little less of one at a time though, just in case it doesn't turn out right, you will know what has caused it;)

  • I always use oil , you can use oliveoil, sunflower oil, corn oil and I use groundnut oil for sweet bakes

    Hi, we just got a new breadmaker too. Our old one that was a wedding present conked out & we used it too much to do without one. I don't use butter......if recipe says 25g butter, I just substitute a tablespoon of oil, olive or sunflower. My partner doesn't use any fat at all when he makes a loaf and it's still lovely bread. Think the fat content just maybe helps the loaf keep a little longer.

    I need to ask another one!

    Would normal self raising flour work in a breadmaker? If not then what would happen to the bread?

    (I am trying this as I type, so if no one knows the answer, I will post again later :))
