I found this on the Groupma Insurances web site Call charges to 0870 numbers reduced
From 1st August 2009 calls to any 0870 numbers will be charged at the same rate as calls to 01 or 02 numbers. In addition, inclusive minutes packages on landlines will also include calls to 0870 numbers. These charges will not apply to calls from mobile networks which may cost more. I enclose a link to their website.

I think they are mistaken I hope they are not! Can anyone confirm or deny what they have posted on their web site?

Dont you believe what they say on their site then.
" UK calls are to 01, 02, 03 & 0870 numbers only (excludes calls to Channel Islands, indirect access numbers, dial-up Internet access and 070 numbers). "

"Not charging" is a bit of an exaggeration. What they mean is (with the above exceptions), they are not charging IN PLAN for calls of up to 60 minutes each.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Talktalk no longer charge for 0870/0871/0844/0845 numbers, BUT to get them included in your plan you have to login to your online account & activate them yourself. I never knew this until the other week when I logged-in to check my latest bill & decided to look at other parts of the site. I also signed-up for 'hide my number' as it was free.Never Knowingly Understood.

It's the usual BT con trick of making out it is going to reduce charges, when overall, it is really increasing them. I received an email from BT this morning detailing the new charges. The headline paragraphs & body of the email were all about small reductions to 0870 numbers etc and then right at the bottom, there is this:-
"From 1 October 2009, the cost of UK calls made during the daytime will increase from 4.5 pence per minute to 5.25 pence per minute. This change does not apply to BT Basic, Light User Scheme and In-Contact Plus customers"
Yes, that a whopping 17% increase!0 -
