(EON) Just transferred name, can we switch now?

Hello,
I've previously asked in this forum regarding the formalities regarding the moving out of one of my old flatmates.
So I've just been on the phone (with her authority of course) with EON, closed down the old account.
I asked if we can then now go on the new tariff, "SaveOnline Electricity". The agent said yes, then asked what new name the account should be in, I gave my other flatmate's name, and said I'll pass him over the phone (so he can set up direct debits etc.) - surprisingly the customer agent said we just have to wait for the new welcome pack.
Now our plan is to transfer to BG's Websaver 3, as it seems to give the best value for our energy usage.
Question is: Can we switch now? Or is it best for us to wait for the EON SaveOnline Electricity to be properly set up first?
Thanks!

Hi firsttimestudent
Once the old account was closed down a new one will have been opened in the name provided.
This account will now be live. Therefore, you can start to switch immediately. There is no need to wait for the Welcome Pack.
Just a bit confused on one point firsttimestudent. Did the new tenant actually set up a Direct Debit?
This is a requirement of Save Online and you will miss out on discount if this has not been done. Might be worth checking.
Hope this helps.

I didn't think Eon allowed any discounts on their final bills they prepared?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100

Absolutely correct Premier. My concern is if the OP delays switching they may miss out on discount on an interim bill.

Hi Malc,
Thank you so much for your replies.
I did ask for that over the phone - I said "shall I pass you over now to my friend so that you can set up the direct debit details with him" and the lady said, it's okay - just wait for the Welcome Pack?
Should I call them now to enquire about that?0 -

Hi firsttimestudent
Definitely call us. Check you are on the right tariff. Electricity Online needs a Monthly Direct Debit. You also need to register with our website to manage your account online.
If either of these are not in place you will miss out on discount.
As I replied to Premier's valid comment previously, we do not give discount on final bills when you switch suppliers. Therefore, the discount issue may be irrelevant should you move to another supplier before a bill has been issued.
My concern is if you don't switch quickly you may miss out on discount.
The agent who dealt with your call should have explained these points and I am really sorry this didn't happen.
Hope this helps but give me a shout if you need any more info. Always happy to help.
