Halifax Charges help
kotoka
I have had a student account with Halifax for the past 3 years, my overdraft is rather large (£2000) and has been more in the past.
On Tues 4th I went into my unauthorised overdraft by £46, due to 3 transactions. I have so far been charged £28 for the privilege of this and £20 per transaction, (one was for 59p ) I am now back into my authorised overdraft. I need some 'grown up' help of how to tackle an attempt to get these charges back...
What is my best plan of attack? Phone, in person or via letter.
Any help would be most appreciated...thank you

Can you check the terms of your account with Halifax cos with NatWest you would only be eligible for return cheque fees on student accounts.0 -
I'm confused, what should I be checking?
This is from my T&C of my account for the Student accounts...
"Paid item fee (see note 1)
A fee we charge when a card transaction, cheque(whether guaranteed or not), standing order, direct debit or other instruction that we pay results in or increases an unarranged overdraft. (See notes 5 and 6)
£20 (no more than once a day)
Unarranged overdraft fee (See note 3)
A fee we charge for every month in which you at any time have an unarranged overdraft.
£28 (up to once a month)"
Given the transactions were on seperate days, I guess the 3 x £20 is 'justified'?0 -
what do the additional notes say?
I don't know whether they exempt student accounts from certain fees as RBS Group or certainly NatWest do.
No you can reclaim them but am trying to explore all avenues to get them back faster rather than a reclaims letter.0 -
My mum rang up and they agreed to wipe the first days charges (£28 + £20). Isn't ideal but better than the alternative.
Thanks for the help anyway natweststaffmember

Hi there my names Matt and im in a similar situation.
I have a student account with halifax and i accidentally went over my overdraft by 60p in april, they charged me £20 that month and they have also just charged me £28 on top of this for that same incident, both charges as mentioned before are legally allowed to be made by Halifax.
I do realise that i should expect to pay some sort of fine for going over my arranged overdraft however im not sure how a bank can realistically charge me £48 for having to pay 60p for me. The most annoying thing is that i had the funds in another account, i had just used the wrong card to pay for the item.
A few months before this happened another couple of charges were made for another incident whereby my rent was taken out of the account but the funds weren't there, i telephoned in and out of a "goodwill gesture" they waivered the charges. I would not have thought they would be happy to do the same thing again.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated in maybe getting some of that £48 back as im not sure of the best course of action.
Thanks
Matt0
