Hi I am in a bit of a pickle I have so much bindweed creeping up my garden I feel like I am being invaded by a triffid.I had half of my garden laid to patio two years ago as I am disabled and cannot bend as I used to. I also have a problem because I had my lymph nodes removed when I had my mastectomy I have to be very careful that my right arm doesn't get bitten or sctratched, as having had it once, it swelled up and I ended up in hospital. So I am resticted as to what work I can actually do in the garden I was wondering Is there is any product that anyone knows of that will kill this bindweed off. I usually just have a few pots of flowers on the patio but now this stuff is creeping over the patio as well:eek::eek: I am begining to think that I need something like 'agent orange' to kill the stuff.
I have a feeling that one morning I shall go out to the conservatory and it will be growing up the windows and doors.
I have no animals to worry about but I don't want to put something down that may harm birds or neighbours animals

Jackie - I think there's been a post on this before -if you type Bindweed in the search box at the top it may come up.
I have a problem with bindween though not as severe as yours...........I created a sort of tripod of canes so it could grow up them -at least then it climbed instead of crawled everywhere else. I've problems with my back so can't bend about and do the garden myself and OH is also limited so a young lad does ours and to be honest I'm not sure what he used -we have three cats so whatever it was it was 'pet friendly'.
Good luck with it:o
I'm sure someone will have a solution for youI would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Ah - me too!!
I have just pulled up/out loads of the stuff and know for sure that it will be back again - worse that ever!!!!
Apparently though - apart from pulling it up to at least keep under control; Glyphosphate (Round-up) painted onto the leaves will help to kill it off. Also covering with black sheeting - but watching out for the pesky stuff creeping around the edges to get some food.
The only real cure is digging and getting out all of the root (mine comes through the hedges and fences from neighbours on two sides so not an option for me in that sense and sounds as though you would be better delegating the digging....). I think it's a case of managing rather than eradicating the pesky stuff.

Stick canes in where it grows most and let it grow up the cane; and then spray with Glyphosphate. It will die back to the roots and you can pull the cane up and put it straight into the bin.0

I've had it growing in the path and also in my lawn. For the lawn, I used Weed & Feed and it has gone away - for now. On the path I use Roundup and it kills it off.0

If it's growing where plants may be damaged by spray, you can brush the weedkiller on with a paintbrush. Make sure you wear gloves.0 -
When I had my garden done the chap actually laid black liner on top of the bottom half of my garden and covered with bark chippings .I now can only see a carpet of this flippin stuff that has grown over my bark chippings.I think I may invest in the landscaper again and get him to completely patio the garden and just have pots . Thanks for the info. though The canes sound like a good idea.
Why does it, and other weeds, grow so much better than my plants .Even if you don't water the garden it still grows grrr0 -

Because it has evolved that way - we pull it out, beat it up, cover it with all sorts and it still grows. If we started doing that with Veg perhaps that would evolve to be more indestructible - but we mollycoddle and pamper it so it becomes less tough. Look at the difference between blueberries and blackberries; blackberries you can't get rid of but blueberries we treat with the utmost care and attention and they just sit there or die on us.
Not that I have issues, of course. :eek:0
