  • Be sure to look at the tfl (transport for london) website. You can get an Oyster card to pay for your travel, this is much cheaper than paying for your fares individually whether by bus, tube or DLR. (docklands light railway) Canary Wharf is on that line. In fact when you travel you will see that most londoners use a pass of some sort for travelling and no money is exchanged. In central london you must have a ticket before you travel on a bus, we get impatient with people who fiddle about with money and change!!! Have a good trip!

What sort of thing are you hoping to do? Grab a copy of time out when you get here, it wil tell you of loads of free music, exhibitions, etc.

Lots of great places to eat in C wharf, yet an easy tube ride to central, a good place to stay. If the weathers nice simply walking around that area is really nice, as is drinking outside on the docks etc for a sundowner, quite nice!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Its good that you booked in advance
My OH and i went last year and the queue was MILES long.
We went for a boat ride instead. This was just great if your interested.
We got off at the tower and had fish and chips (the best) and a coke for a fiver, had a walk around the area and hopped back on the boat again back to the eye and then had a walk around Big Ben area. Have fun

check out walkers crisps website for loads of 2-4-1 offers on days out in uk. you only need a few points to get the vouchers and savings can be pretty big.
    in london it includes

    Ripleys Beleive it or not
    Tower Bridge
    London Dungeons
    HMS Belfast
    Kensington Gardens
    and possibly Tower of London
    plus more...

Top tip for anyone wanting to do the dungeons - go early - i mean 9.30am the queue is minimal 20 - 30 people. go at lunchtime if you want to stand in a queue that is half a mile long - i kid you not and it may have been longer. we have just come back from a 3 day stay in london and hotel was right near dungeons (hilton tower bridge - very nice too!) we passed that queue several times and couldn't beleive the lengths it went to as the day wore on. we passed it at 9.30 on thursday morning and there was maybe 20 people in it.

we went on the london eye. we prebooked standard tickets via the official website cost us £32 ish for 2 adult plus 1 child. we got there at 9.45 am collected tickets in under 5 minutes - no queues, all nipped to loos then joined the boarding queue which took under 5 minutes to walk through and got on the eye at 10.05am - we were not due to "fly" till 11am but we got straight on.

so pleased i did not book the fasttrack as it would have cost us £72 and been a total waste of the extra money.

freebies to do in london - there are tons of museums and art galleries including National History Museum and Science Museum which we did - be aware though - it's school holidays and these places in particular are pretty busy to say the least.

a good afternoon filler (or an all day bonanza)is a visit to Harrods - just for a look. It is a truly fascinating place to visit - just to see some of the crazy stuff people buy!!! but also the place itself, the rooms are a delight to look around and the Christmasworld dept is now open - just a stunning array of decorations. theres a fascinating fossil collection on one floor, and even the cakes and sweets rooms are worth a look. and i have to say the staff are all lovely, very friendly, all approachable and quite happy to chat to inquisitive tourists.

    hope this helps.

p.s. top tip to reduce your queing time for museum - take no bags with you - if you have a bag you have to wait to be searched on entry!!!

Are you going by train? Look on the train line that goes through Reading (is it South west trains??) as they have lots of offers when you buy the train ticket combined. My DD got from Reading and into Kew Gardens and return for a ridiculously low price - can't exactly remember but something like £8 inclusive.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

  • Hi, the london pass (londonpass.com) gives you lots of free entry to places and you can get it with travel included its quite pricey but i think it would save money if you wanted to go to alot of places and use the tube and buses, you can get 15% off the price by using the code 'life06' aswell.
    Hope this helps
