Unjust EDF Direct Debit increase!
I received my electricity bill this morning which left a balance of -£0.03 on my account. Despite this, they have decided to double my direct debit payments to £70 a month!
My bill was from January to July - so 6 months of eaqual winter and summer months and was billed at £208 - roughly £34.50 a month - I currently pay £35/month.
I phoned them up, told them I wasn't happy - the girl on the phone went off for a couple of minutes and came back to say they could reduce them to £40/month because my 12 month usage apparently worked out to £38/month! Is it me or is this completely wrong - assuming she is right with her figures what right do they have to charge £2 more a month than is necessary?
Anyway, I was very annoyed when I opened the bill, so I (politely) told her that if they add so much as 1p to my DD I will cancel my account and swith to another company (after all my account is only 3p in debit). This seemed to do the trick and she agreed to keep my payments at £35/month.
My point is that I feel EDF are completely out of order and I hope most people do in fact challenge such an outrageous increase, although I'm sure some won't even realise!

strange, mine has just come down £20 a month.
I suppose that just goes to show they got their sums wrong last year.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Remember to keep a close watch on your consumption and calculate your actual usage, then put aside any difference between what you have consumed and what you have paid.
A quick perusal of this board will show numerous instances of people suddenly finding themselves in debt to the supplier because the monthly amount being paid did not cover their usage."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
EDFs algorythm is flawed.
They tried to increase my DD from £60 to over £460.
It was complete madness because my account was in credit at the time.
Oh and after getting a verbal appology it happened the following month too!
EDF cannot be trusted with Direct Debits0
