We can download at nearly 2Mb but the upload speed is only around 240kb. I always understood that upload speed should be 25 per cent of the download. It would be nice if the upload speed could be increased to speed up making changes to our website. Can anything be done to improve this?

I'm using Windows XP with a Belkin router and Plus Net as the ISP.

It's whatever the service provider decides it should be. My BB has gone from 512Kb/s to 1Mb/s to 2Mb/s and the upload speed has always been 256Kb/s. I think the theory is that we as consumers want to download not upload.

That's a helluva website if you are finding updates slow!

My connection speed is 8128Kbs for Download and 448Kbs for Upload.

For faster connections such as 8Mb, the upload increases a little but, it's not 25%.

It sounds like you've already worked out the reason why. Most people download more than they upload. It's why it called an ASDL (Asymmetric) service.

If you did want equally fast download and upload speeds, you may be able to get SDSL in your area. This is a symmetric service. Unfortunately though will set you back a few hundred pounds a month. The price may come down in the near future.
