    Well I dunno about these days but in the old days yes a few seconds was enough to screw my m8s amd athlon.

    My opinion is the CPU is fried from what you say.

    Agreed, all processors are run at different temps. AMD's generally run a lot hotter than Intels.

    I know for a fact I will not try it.

    I would, knowing in confidence that the CPU would throttle it's clock speed.

    Yeah usually down to zero with a quick power off, my Q6600 lasted 10 seconds with the cooler touching the cpu but not properly locked down, before the auto-shutoff kicked in. most desktops dont really cpu throttle anyway.

    The auto-offs are good these days, my q6600 is still working fine but I wouldn't do it on perpose
