Laptop advice

My son wants a laptop for his birthday.

He will need it for school work, playing games and the internet.

I don't want to spend more than £500 tops. He wants an LG but I've always found Dell to be good.

Any advice as to what specs I should look for please?

May I suggest you start by reading the 'sticky' at the top of this Board about 'best laptop'.
Then if you run a search I think you will find a number of posts that are very recent and may be a useful starting point for you in your search?:o

You don't say how old he is (will he be old enough to take care of it?).

As Flossy_Splodge says, there have been recent posts on this very subject, one at least cleaned up to be 'on topic'! In one of them I suggest looking at the website, and perhaps the magazine, What Laptop...

Acer is good for decent specc'd laptops that are cheap. Look at Laptopsdirect.co.uk which generally has some of the cheapest prices.

When you said "LG" I did a bit of a search on their latest offerings.....

Whatever you do, do not go for a laptop with the polished shiny screens, they look fantastic just like LGs TV's, but on a sunny day your son won't be getting much of anything done on it at all.

    Should be a sticky really
Buy/read PcPro mag's and search out the advice there and look at their guide to the "A" List products. Get an informed opinion

Why stop there why not buy/read other PC mags, look at websites like the gadget show, whatlaptop, trustedreviews, etc, etc. Then no one would come here in the process of getting an informed opinion and ask.
